13th Anniversary of R.A. 7942 or the Mining Act of 1995

Today we remember how 13 years ago the intentionally-flawed Mining Act was signed into law, and how it has caused so much damage to the environment and local communities from thereon. The Save Rapu-Rapu Alliance held a picket and rally at the DENR's regional office and proceeded afterwards to the student gate of Aquinas University for a short program.

Tomorrow the group plans to attend the regular session of the Provincial Board to call on its members to fulfill their promise of conducting fair and thorough investigations to determine the cause of the recent rounds of fish kill in October-November 2007.

We join the nation in calling for truth and accountability. The mining problem in Rapu-Rapu is a consequence of Lafayette's and this government's disregard for truth and accountability. Repeal the Mining Act of 1995!
